Getting the perfect tan is not about spending as long as possible on a sunbed — it's about the right approach. A natural, even colour is built gradually, on well-prepared and well-hydrated skin.
1. Prepare your skin
Exfoliate gently a day before your session to remove dead skin cells. Fresh, smooth skin tans more evenly and your colour lasts longer. Avoid shaving or waxing right before tanning — give your skin a few hours to settle.
2. Come clean
Remove make-up, perfume and deodorant before your session. Many cosmetics contain ingredients that can react with UV light or block it, leaving patchy results.
3. Build your tan gradually
Start with short sessions — if you have sensitive skin or no existing tan, keep your first sessions to three minutes or under — and increase the time gradually over days or weeks. Leave at least 48 hours between sessions so your skin can develop its colour and recover. Never aim for redness: a burn is skin damage, not a tan.
"An even tan is built in small steps, not in one long session."
4. Use a proper indoor tanning lotion
Hydrated skin tans better. An indoor tanning lotion — an accelerator, a bronzer or a tingle formula — helps your skin make the most of every session and gives a smoother finish. Apply it evenly, paying attention to knees, elbows and ankles.
5. Moisturise every day
A tan fades as skin renews itself. Moisturising daily, especially after tanning, keeps your skin supple and slows down peeling, so your colour stays even for longer. Drink plenty of water too.
6. Always protect your eyes
Wear the goggles provided every single time, even with your eyes closed. Eyelids alone don't block UV light.
